A downloadable game for Windows

ROV is a short game inspired by deep-sea ROV footage, especially the grainy low-quality footage from the 1990's.

Control an overcomplicated ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) and multi-jointed arm as you collect some samples of organic material that have begun to form on the side of an oil-rig riser.

NOTES:

  • The game uses the Unity HD render pipeline and large texture sizes so it will likely not run well on lower-end hardware.
  • It was my first time working with these types of physics systems so apologies if it's occasionally wonky.
  • Currently the game requires an American style keyboard with at least 2 Ctrl keys.

TIPS:

  • You can refer to the controls by pressing the Esc key
  • Switching between cameras (1 and 2) can help you with the manipulator (arm)
  • Zooming in and out (Q and E) can help, plus it looks more like the source inspiration!
  • If you're stuck check your depth gauge (DPT) and compare it to the samples' location

concept is great, visuals and sounds too. Really cool game!

great concept, you got me lol

KEEP ON MAKING THIS PLEASE!!!!Game Tester: Test Games for Fun and XP

(1 edit)

wasnt fully sure what to expect but actually pleasantly pleased.. gave me a new look and respect for working from a robot. controls took a lil bit to get fully figured out. be TONS easier on a controller with 2 sticks.. or able to at least remap the keys. oooh control the arm movements with the mouse that would be cool. but i see the challenge of the game is fumbling over the controls and trying to complete the task. just if this does and hope it does (cuz its different and i like it,) get developed with having longer play and more lvls being able to change controls becomes a option. please continue developing this.. iv never seen a game like this and its great concept, could also make it a spooky scare game idk just a idea.. PLEASE FURTHER THE MAKING OF THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

P.S. Love the vcr view vibe, just calm down on the white reflecting light glare. with it being a darker game ppl tend to turn gamma brightness up on screen. i didnt have it up, i just had it normal and it kinda hurt my eyes.. just a lil feedback from a consumer..

REALLY AWESOME GAME AND EXPERIENCE!! REALLY LIKE HOW YOU MADE THE CONTROLS WORKED KEEP IT UP GOD BLESS AND JESUS LOVES YOU!!!

You weren't kidding when you called it overcomplicated. I struggled just as much witht the control of the device as I did with the fear of the deep sea. All in all I really loved it.

Man what a pretty awesome game! I love these type of games where there are various keys or buttons you have to use in order to efficiently move something like a mechanical arm or machine! Had quite a blast trying to learn how to move the arm it felt so satisfying when you actually succeed! Really loved this game, and I would love to see more like this! Amazing job!

I love this. Keep up the good work mate.

LOVE THE GAME I LOWKEY HAVE A FEAR OF BEING IN THE OCEAN!

I knew, the ending was coming. The moment the red light glittered off the pipe, my stomach sank. I took a moment to prepare, and it still scared the crap out of me. I covered my face in fear, it was that good. Amazing work.

The game looks amazing!!! 10/10!!!

Very atmospheric little game, good work on this!

Very creepy and fantastic short horror game. The controls were a bit tricky to get but once you realize how they all work you get the hang of it pretty fast. Loved it and it reminded me a lot of Iron Lung so check it out if you are a fan of that game. Awesome job!

the visuals are excellent. the controls are complex but they don't feel unreasonable. and although it didn't scare me, this game did a great job of creating tension.

there or not a lot of games quite like this out there -- i know that i personally would be interested in a longer experience of some kind, if you make one. just in case... i'm following

scary as fuck

Loved the game! The overly complicated nature of the machine and figuring out were especially cool!

really nice concept. I kinda knew i shouldnt have gone for the light but i just had to lol

bruh

Great game. So atmospheric.

Absolutely insane! incredible positive experience! Hope you go on on the development.

Haven't downloaded yet but found a YT video.. just wanted to say great job on the fundamentals visuals.. had no idea it was a game from the thumbnail and then was awestruck as I watched.

As A Man Who Suffers From thalassophobia This Game Was Unbelievably Scary For Me When I Heard The Monster On My Way To The Second Sample I Considered Not Playing At All  9/10 From Me ~Wang

Impressive visuals. Really impressive.

Fantastic game! I loved the controls, I wish there were more games with this control scheme.

This was fun and frustrating (in the best way). I was very awful and confused but enjoyed myself anyways.

Some feedback:

- Great atmosphere

- Accurately clunky control scheme.

- The arm feels very limited in range. I had to park my vessel practically inside of the gunk in other to get close enough. I was also unable to deposit the second sample comfortably, I ended up just dropping the sample and then quickly maneuvering the vessel underneath the falling sample. Moving the buckets closer to the arm or giving the arm greater reach would solve this.

- Holding samples made the arm glitch out in a variety of ways. The sample would clip into the hand, the hand would clip into the arm, the fingers of the hand would start bending at impossible angles. It looked so comically bad I thought for a moment we were investigating some lovecraftian reality-altering substance. This could be solved by simply deleting the sample after a player has grabbed it and replacing it with a stationary version of the sample that simply follows the core of the hand's path and turns back into a physical object once the hand lets go of it.

- The ending being just a jumpscare was disappointing. I was expecting more after all that build-up.

I loved it!  The controls were quite a bit to take in at first but after a while being able to steer was pretty satisfying.  The scare didn't really get me but overall I enjoyed the whole experience :3

The controls killed me, but I think that there is a lot of potential. Keep it up👍

I think this game cannot be played with a keyboard without an american keyboard. I don't have 2 alt keys and extending the arm is impossible, no button the keyboard does it.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll make a note of this on the game page!

Man like shiny thing

Cool game I can see what your going for just wish the controls where simpler only encountered one bug it crashed as soon as it loaded but it never did it again.

Yeah the controls are definitely a little complicated. I kinda liked it, but I can totally understand why some could be annoyed. Sorry about that!

Could not play this due to shortened keyboard with only one Ctrl key. Controls do not need to be this convoluted, they only add frustration currently, would be nice to have gamepad mappings

Thanks for the feedback! I tried looking up keyboards with only one Ctrl key for a few minutes but couldn't find any good examples. Do you have an idea for an additional key I could bind to to help with this issue?

Alt? Or just support Xbone gamepad as an option

cool game! i got spooked at the end. unexpected! I see other people having problems but i didn't have any.

Where/How do you see malware? Nothing coming up on Virustotal.

Hey, could you clarify what happened? My best guess is that Windows will warn you about opening it because it doesn’t recognize the app. You can click on “more info” and “run anyway” to play if that happens. Scanning the game contents with Microsoft Defender should say that there aren’t any problems. Any info on this would be appreciated. Sorry for the trouble!
